Self-Care Is Yoga

When I was in my early 20’s I used to be a dedicated yogi, practicing yoga almost daily. I remember feeling energetic and more centered. Over time, my life naturally changed and yoga was no longer a priority over other things. While I slowly let go of the practice of yoga I started to notice changes within myself. I was not as focused or energetic as I was when practicing it on a daily basis.

There are so many amazing benefits from yoga, it’s a shame that I gave it up for a brief period of time. Yoga improves focus, stability and flexibility. It can also be relaxing and help with sleep, which as of right now I am not able to enjoy this particular yoga benefit, considering I have a 5 month old and am barely hanging on with the amount of sleep that she allows me to have each night. However, for the ones whose kids are past this stage this can be very helpful if you suffer from insomnia. Also, for the mamas 30 and over, yoga can also help alleviate back pain! If you are suffering from depression, strike a yoga pose! It has been proven to reduce depressive moods.

One of the main reasons that I started practicing yoga again on a daily basis is  to manage stress better, have more energy as well as fight postpartum depression. I thoroughly enjoy yoga and look forward to it each day. It quickly has become one of my favorite things to do since I became a mama of two, it’s a nice break from my motherly duties.

Mama, start practicing today. Self-care is some yoga time, you will definitely be relieved that you did!
