When I had my first daughter Ysabel, I was barely 22 years old and naive in so many ways. I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t have any more children until I was mentally and financially stable. Before I had my second daughter Luciana, I was so focused on work and school that having another baby wasn’t one of my goals. When I found out, I was shocked because it has been nine years since having a baby, why now? I had six months left before I received my Masters in Psychology to further my career and I was steadily working full time. I am the type of person that likes to strategically plan things out and this was definitely not on my list. However, I was excited because I haven’t been pregnant in so long everything I was going through seemed brand new. I also knew Ysabel wanted a sibling considering she was the only child and grandchild. I figured this change would be the best for everyone. Fast forward to present day, I am glad that I waited nine years to have another child. I don’t have to change two diapers. My oldest can watch Luciana if I need to run to the bathroom. Ysabel is no longer the only child, therefore she doesn’t feel lonely. I have another cuddle buddy as well as an opportunity to teach another girl to be a strong and independent woman. I allowed my body to rest and for everything to go back to where it’s supposed to go. There are some that say “you should have had kids sooner so they will be close in age or there could be a lot of problems having kids in your 30’s.” Everyone has a different story and not every story will read the same. What works for you is not going to necessarily work for others, being judgmental is ugly and we are beautiful boss mamas. Mamas, even though we may plan for our lives to happen a certain way doesn’t mean that there are not going to be surprises during our journey. Mama, your story is amazing, never feel ashamed of your past because it made you who you are today, a strong and relentless boss mama!
