As mothers, it’s easy for us to be pulled every which way and it can be quite difficult to be mindful.
According to Psychology Today, mindfulness is the state of intentionally and openly staying and remaining in the present (Psychology Today 2021). Practicing mindfulness has so many benefits including alleviating stress, improving sleep patterns, as well as lowering blood pressure. Worry and anxiety can have you living in the past or in the distant future. Although pondering on memories of the past or having plans for the future is not always a bad idea, we don’t want to spend the majority of our time there either because we don’t live in the past or future. We live in the now. Not only will mindfulness help overcome and conquer anxiety and worry, practicing being in the present can help mend broken relationships, not only with a significant other, but with family, friends and even our children. As boss mamas, we not only deserve to be the best version of ourselves, for ourselves but also for our children. Being mindful and living in the present can help us clear our minds before having a much needed discussion or even disciplining our children. This is why I adopted yoga as my daily practice. Yoga not only helps me achieve my fitness goals, it also helps me stay in the present and be more aware of what’s going on now. Mindfulness is what needs to be apart of our lives to eliminate negativity that has a tendency of lingering.
Mama, every time you have the urge to dwell on the negativity of the past or worry about what lies ahead, remember to be here, to be present and inhale the positive aspects of your life, embrace it and then exhale the toxic negativity that is irrelevant and unnecessary.
Mindfulness is self-care. You got this!
