I wanted to speak on a topic that I have been struggling with lately, and that is quickly reaching my goals, while still maintaining good health. Let me clarify, having goals and achieving those goals are great, however, overdoing it to the point that it affects your overall health is a problem that should be addressed. In order for us to be an acceptable human being, society expects us (especially women) to exercise on a daily basis, be social, be with our kids 24/7, work and perform harder, drink enough water, and sleep 8 hours ,all while our bodies are crying out for attention and care. I am done with living up to unreachable standards that were created by invisible perfect people. I don’t want to be perfect and I no longer strive for it. Now, if I was talking to myself 6 years ago I would scoff at the thought of NOT being perfect, thankful for growth. Attempting to live a perfect lifestyle is too hard and exhausting and I don’t care for it anymore. If my body needs more rest, I will listen and take a day and not exercise. If I have been working on a project that has made me mentally weak, but had a prior engagement to attend to, I will listen to my body and not attend. If I am having an emotional battle one day I will listen to my body incorporate some alone time. I am not saying neglect your goals but temporarily put them on hold until your body receives the care that it needs. Listen and trust your body. This is your body, and if you don’t listen and care for it then no one else will. Mamas, you have the final decision when it comes to YOUR body. Choose wisely. Self-care is listening to your body to give the attention and care that it deserves in order to have the stamina and energy to continue to reach your goals!

That is such a good word. I’m learning more on how to listen to my body when it needs to rest and not ouch myself. To realize tomorrow is another day , for the things I didn’t accomplish today. Thank you for reminding me.

It’s so important to take care of ourselves. The quality of your work also improves if you are feeling rejuvenated.

You make really great points and your right it is really important to take care of ourselves. We often take on to much and our needs get left behind. Everyone should work on that.

Yes! I completely agree. I have perfectionist tendencies and when I was in my 20’s and early 30’s I always felt like I had to perfect at all times, and I was stressed and anxious and exhausted all the time. Now that I’m in my early 40’s I recognize the importance of listening to my body and practicing self-care when I need it… even more so with a young child. If I’m stressed it shows, and my little one will pick up on that energy.
