The Brief Escape

Ladies and whoever reads this, if you work from home and are constantly with your kids I want to talk to you about something. Have you been overwhelmed and everywhere you go your kids go too? I am right there with you! Usually when I go anywhere and I mean anywhere ( to the bathroom too) my kids are attached to my hip. Working from home and taking care of kids all day, everyday is not for the weak. The other day I felt the urge to just escape for a little while. My man was kind enough to order pizza so I told him I will gladly pick it up. So after work, I grabbed my purse and keys, and left quickly. Do you think the kids were calm when I did leave? Nope, Luciana was screaming at the top of her lungs. Did I feel guilty? A little but I knew she would eventually calm down and for the sake of my sanity and self-care it was necessary to briefly go venture out on my own. At first, I didn’t think that I would enjoy myself because I was just going to pick up our order but as I started to drive off into the sunset I felt a sense of relief and a weight lifted, this mini trip was well- deserved. Spontaneously, I decided to order a Starbucks ( I know fancy, right?), once I picked up my delectable customized frappucino, I went to the store. It was glorious to take this store visit, solo. My last trip was to the pizza place as I picked up the pizza and got in the car to drive home, I felt satisfied. Mamas AND papas alike, I encourage you to take those brief trips by YOURSELF to feel like YOU again, you will be glad that you did. Those 45 minutes really helped me feel like myself, my self-care tank was full and I was able to give my kids and man the attention they wanted without feeling depleted. As I have mentioned previously, you can’t give what you don’t have, whether that is love, time, or energy. Taking care of yourself is so important not only for you but for the people that you take care of on a daily basis. It’s perfectly healthy to put yourself first, because if you don’t take care of yourself, it’s impossible to completely and wholeheartedly take care of others. Exhaustion should never be something a parent is forced to cope with. You deserve that mini trip alone, love. Self-care is definitely those much needed brief escapes.

  1. I love a brief mini trip by myself sometimes! I’m with my toddler all day every day but sometimes while she’s napping I’ll go out for an hour and it’s heavenly!

  2. Yes – so very true. I don’t take breaks as much as I should – and I do my business as home, and also homeschool…. with a toddler. It was no wonder I ended the school year like a zombie. I do look forward to those grocery trips and even short walks – and even more amazing is being able to go to the patio and read alone. Self care is so important!
