Everyone experiences stress, it’s a normal emotion to feel. However, how you handle stress determines if you are choosing healthy coping mechanisms or not. Experiencing high levels of stress can be detrimental to your health, if not managed properly. In the past, when I was stressed I used to overindulge on sweets, greasy and processed foods just for comfort but in the end I played myself because I felt horrible afterwards. I was bloated, felt heavy and depleted of energy which increased my stress levels even more. I decided I had enough and didn’t want to feel this way anymore. So I proactively chose to eat healthier, especially when stressed and the changes were beneficial. I no longer feel sluggish, bloated or feeling like I have to drag my feet when performing daily tasks, which relieves anxiety and tension. I feel wonderful and have so much more energy. Even though I am still on my weight loss journey I feel better than ever. While eating healthy, my stress is easier to manage. If you are experiencing high stress levels, I encourage you to choose a healthy option. I know it’s our natural response to go to the unhealthy comfort foods when we stress to possibly ease some tension but it’s not the most beneficial. We are bosses of our own lifestyle, we have the power to take control of our lives, not allow stress and food to rule us and ruin our health. Again, show stress who is boss and eat healthy!
